Amuneke: U-23 Eagles Have Themselves To Blame For Tight Situation

By Sab Osuj8:

Golden Eaglets coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, has admitted that Saturday's final Group Africa U-23 Cup of Nations match between Nigeria and Algeria will be difficult but he is praying for Samson Sisia's charges to prevail over their North African foes after the Nigerians made things difficult for themselves.

Amuneke who guided the Golden Eaglets to lift last month's FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile told Completesportsnigeria.com on Friday that the U-23 Eagles must have to manage their game very well against Algeria.

"It is very sad that we found ourselves in this position," Amuneke said.

"In two previous games we threw away our comfortable leads and now have to fight hard for survival in the last game.

"If we had held on well and won those two games, this game with Algeria would have been an inconsiquential one.

"It all has to do with game management. You score and try to hold onto it, I mean protect your lead.

"Of course, Algeria will be difficult enemies. They too want to qualify.

"They are already on four points with us and a draw and a likely Egypt win over Mali will see the three teams finish with five points and this will drag us into the hed-to-head mathematics for qualification."

A draw with Algeria with Algeria will be enough to see  Nigeria through.

The former Super Eagles and FC Barcelona winger however forsees victory for the Nigerian squad.

"Yes, I see Nigeria winning the game by whatever margin," Amuneke added to Completesportsnigeria.com.

"From the result of their two previous games, it shows they are an attacking minded team.

"They must have worked on the mistakes that saw them concede goals especially in the second half so I believe any goal they score from this game with Algeria would be very decisive."
