Anderson Will Keep Bowling Record – McGrath

Glenn McGrath believes James Anderson will remain the most successful fast bowler in the history of cricket once he overtakes him. The 48-year-old former Australia pace man ended his Test career with 563 wickets in 124 Test matches at an impressive average of 21.64.
However, his long-standing record is severely under threat with Anderson sitting just seven wickets away from overtaking him and the 36-year-old could feasibly achieve that in the remaining two Test matches of England’s five-match series against India.
And, McGrath feels that with the emergence of Twenty20 cricket and the subsequent leagues cropping up around the world, which makes it difficult for bowlers to enjoy a sustained run in the longest format of the sport, Anderson will remain at the top forever.

He told the Daily Mail: “Once Jimmy goes past me it will be interesting to see where he wants to set the bar. With the nature of the game these days, and the amount of Twenty20 cricket, I believe no fast bowler will ever go past him.
“Being a fast bowler is the toughest job in the game and people do not see the hard work off the field that goes into spending as much time at the top as Jimmy has. We put ourselves through a lot more pain than anyone else.”
McGrath added: “I have an awful lot of respect for Jimmy. Good luck to him. I believe once he goes past me he will never be beaten.

“Records are nice and I’ve been very proud to have taken more wickets than any fast bowler in Test history, but any high is there to be beaten and I will be equally proud of Jimmy when he goes past me because the fast bowlers’ union has to stick together, whichever country we come from.”
