Nigerian forward Victor Anichebe is closing in on a return to the Sunderland squad after being sidelined with injury.
Anichebe has been out of action since January 21 after going off in Sunderland's 2-0 away loss to West Brom at the Hawthorns.
But according to Sunderland Echo, Anichebe has an outside chance of making his return to the squad this weekend away to Watford having spent the past couple of weeks working on his rehabilitation work in the US.
Relegation-threatened Sunderland are bottom, seven points from safety ahead of April games against Watford, Leicester City, Manchester United, West Ham United, AFC Bournemouth and Middlesbrough.
The return of Anichebe would give injury-hit Sunderland a major boost, with the forward playing a key role in the run of four wins from seven in November and December 2017.
Since joining Sunderland from West Brom on a free early in the season, Anichebe has scored three goals in 11 appearances.
