Anichebe Ends 18-Month Drought, Omeruo Scores Own Goal, Mikel Dropped Again

Nigerian striker Victor Anichebe scored his first goal of the season in his third appearance for Sunderland who recorded a 2-1 win over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.


Anichebe, making his third appearance in the English Premier League for Sunderland, was instrumental in the Black Cats securing their first win of the season, bagging his first goal after 18 months and winning the penalty for Jermaine Defoe to seal the win from the penalty spot.

At Stamford Bridge, Victor Moses kept his place in Chelsea’s starting line-up and was impressive in the Blues maintaining their 22-year record of not losing to Everton at home with a 5-0 thumping of the Toffees.

Moses was denied by the upright in the first half and in stoppage time by Marten Stekelenburg who needed a second attempt to save the Nigerian’s low drive.

His compatriot Mikel Obi was not listed for the game just as he is yet to make a matchday squad for Chelsea this season.

In Turkey, Kenneth Omeruo scored an own goal in Alanyaspor‘s 4-3 win over visiting Gaziantepspor on Saturday.

Omeruo turned the ball into his own net in the 12th minute to level scores at 1-1 for the visitors. Alanyaspor are 12th in the league table with 11 points from 10 games.
