By James Agberebi:
Swansea gave their push for Premier League survival a big boost following their 2-0 win against already relegated Sunderland 2-0 at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
Nigerian striker Victor Anichebe was on from the start for Sunderland but went off injured in the first half with a hamstring injury.
Two first half goals from Fernando Llorente and Kyle Naughton secured the important win for Swansea who are now 17th on 38 points in the league table, four points away from the relegation zone.
Swansea got off to the best start as Llorente put away the game's first real chance in the ninth minute as he headed in a cross past Jordan Pickford.
Llorente almost doubled Swansea lead in the 12th minute but Lamine Kone blocked his goal-bound shot.
Swansea continued to mount pressure on Sunderland's defence and were almost rewarded on 18 minutes but Pickford held Gylfi Sigurdsson's well-taken free-kick.
A minute later Sunderland were forced into an early change as Jason Denayer went off injured and was replaced by Darren Gibson.
Jermain Defoe went close for Sunderland in the 35th minute but was beaten to the ball by Lukasz Fabianski who diverted Billy Jones' knock down.
Sunderland were forced into a second change in the 36th minute as Anichebe who had been holding his hamstring in the last five minute went off for Wahbi Khazri.
Anichebe's stay at Sunderland has been blighted by injuries, having only just returned from a long layoff.
Two minutes into first half added time, Naughton doubled Swansea's lead after squeezing a shot into the top corner after collecting a pass from Sung-Yueng Ki.
In the second half Sunderland put up a better performance but could not turn their good spell into goal.
Sunderland's improved performance was almost rewarded in the 66th minute through Khazri whose volley from the edge of the box was cleared away by Fabianski.
Swansea's final game of the season will be at home against West Bromwich Albion and will need a win to maintain their Premier League status.Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
