–Eagles star works on his fitness
Former France based Super Eagles defender Onyekachi Apam has resumed training with Seattle Sounders.
Few weeks after putting pen to paper for MLS outfit, Seattle Sounders the ex Rennes star took part in his first training session with the team yesterday.
Apam took part in short sided games and generally got passing marks from head coach Sigi Schmid.
“They were good things at the beginning of practice, goals in tight, he’s got good defensive tendencies which are one of the things we wanted,” Schimd said.
However, the coach has doubts about Apam’s fitness as he hasn’t played regularly since March 2013, but noted he could play some part in a reserve game.
Apam’s Nigeria national teammate and counterpart at Sounders Obafemi Martins said if fitness permits the former France based star, he will be a hit with the team.
Martins also confirmed Apam’s statement that he put in a word to convince the Beijing 2008 silver medallist to join Seattle Sounders.
“I said to him that the fact that I’m here means the team is good, he was happy and said he is ready to come”, Martins said.
