Paris Saint-Germain back-up goalkeeper Alphonse Areola was reportedly keen on a move to England this summer, with two clubs interested. The 25-year-old has been on the Ligue 1 giants’ books since 2012 and made 73 appearances in all competitions to date.
However, the 2017-18 season aside, his outings have been sporadic and it is clear that he is now third in the pecking order at the Parc des Princes after the arrival of Juventus and Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon.
Areola has been handed two league starts this term as boss Thomas Tuchel rested Buffon but it seems as though the former France Under-21 ace would have been happy playing elsewhere.
It has been suggested that Newcastle and Chelsea were chasing him while Napoli tabled a bid for the shot-stopper.
Now it remains to be seen where he plays in the long term but, for the moment, he seems to be impressing in Paris.
