Argentina coach Jorge Sampaoli is set to meet with Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi on Friday to discuss a possible return to the national team ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Argentina will face Iceland, Croatia and Nigeria in Group D at the World Cup in Russia.
According to a report on TyC Sports Argentina, Sampaoli wants a striker in good shape and form in his squad for the World Cup with his first choice striker Sergio Aguero facing a race to be fully fit for the World Cup.
Icardi has scored 25 Serie A goals for Inter this season.
“Jorge Sampaoli will speak with Mauro Icardi on Friday,” TyC Sports revealed.
“With Sergio Aguero’s fitness being an issue with his latest surgery Sampaoli is considering taking a healthy and very much in-form Icardi.”
