Argentina head coach Jorge Sampaoli has expressed his frustration after the Albiceleste were held to a 1-1 draw by Iceland in their 2018 FIFA World Cup Group D encounter at the Spartak Stadium on Saturday.
The two-time world champions dominated play for most of the game but were frustrated by the debutants who put up a disciplined performance all through.
Sampaoli’s men took the lead through Sergio Aguero in the 19th minute, but Iceland rallied back four minutes later with a goal from Alfred Finnbogason.
“The feeling is one of frustration, we came with a lot of enthusiasm, we faced a well-structured team that played well defensively, but this is just the beginning and we have to have the strength to face the next game in the same way,” Sampaoli stated during his post match interaction with the media.
“We were not quick enough in the first half, but in the second, we were more offensive. The characteristics of Croatia and Nigeria are different.”
The South Americans will face Croatia in their next game on Tuesday at the Nizhny Novgorod.
