Nollywood star Mike Ezuruonye hopes the 1-0 defeat suffered by Arsenal in their second English Premier League game of the season against Stoke City on Saturday is only a blip, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Gunners slumped to the slim defeat albeit with some controversial moments in the game.
Arsenal supporter, Ezuruonye spoke with Completesportsnigeria.com on Sunday on his thoughts after the setback.
“I feel Arsenal had a good chance to win the match or at least get a draw. There were questionable calls from the referee who should have awarded a penalty when Hector Bellerin was fouled in the box,” the actor with hordes of movie credits to his name told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“The Alexandre Lacazette goal should have stood. This is the reason why technology is important in football, sports in general.
“I just hope this defeat motivates them to work at their lapses. We don’t want to see them losing close to ten matches in a season.
“Their next game is Liverpool, very tough opponents, a match they most not lose,” Ezuruonye stated.
On Arsene Wenger’s transfer objectives, Ezuruonye advises that the team needs a steely presence in midfield and advocates for the acquisition of Sporting Lisbon’s midfielder William Carvalho.
“Few teams in Europe can play beautiful football better than Arsenal, but what matters is the win in the end,” he remarks.
“Wenger needs to buy a a very physical midfielder because the likes of Stoke City likes to bully them. For me, Arsenal need a player like William Carvalho of Sporting Lisbon. He is the kind of player, just like Saed Kolasinac, that has to come in. Some seasons ago, Victor Wanyama was the ideal one,” Ezuruonye concluded.
West Ham United are reportedly in talks with Sporting Lisbon for the possible signing of Portugal international Carvalho who has his roots in Angola.
