Arsenal have reportedly ‘joined the race’ to sign Mexican midfield star Hector Herrera from Porto. The Mirror claim the Gunners are among the clubs who want to sign the 28-year-old, who appears to be running down his contract with the Portuguese champions.
Herrera, who was also outstanding against Germany in the 2018 World Cup, is contracted to Porto until June 2019 so now has less than a year left on that deal.
That has put Arsenal, Roma, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain on red alert while Tottenham were also linked over the summer.
Gunners head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is thought to be a big fan of the player and wanted to sign him at Borussia Dortmund in 2014.
However, Arsenal will meet stiff competition for Herrera in January with Spanish newspaper AS claiming he met new Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui during the international break.
The two previously worked together during the Spaniard’s two years as boss at the Dragao Stadium and Herrera has been mooted to want a move to a bigger league.
