Arsenal Legend Wright: Iwobi, Other Youngsters Will Shine Under New Manager

By James Agberebi:
Arsenal great Ian Wright has tipped Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi and other exciting young players in the club to excel under the new manager that will replace Arsene Wenger from next season.
Wenger took charge of his final Premier League home game as Arsenal ran out 5-0 winners against Burnley on Sunday to cement sixth position in the league table.
Iwobi was on target for Arsenal against Burnley, scoring the fourth goal in the 64th minute, his third league goal of the season.
January signing Pierre-Emerick Aubamenyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac all scored for Arsenal.
Speaking as a pundit on Match of The Day 2, Wright who is Arsenal’s second highest goalscorer of all time (185 goals from 288 appearances) stated that the incoming manager will not find it difficult working with the club’s young talents.
“When you look at (Ainsley) Maitland-Niles, Iwobi, (Kostantinos) Mavropanos, Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock, if that’s all they’ve got (on Arsenal’s young players), I feel those players are good enough to go to the next level with somebody who is going to coach them and help them progress,” the 1998 Premier League winner with Arsenal said.
“Anybody that is looking to progress the players, young or old (manager), as long as they are ready to promote people from the academy like the boys I’ve just named.”

  • Ian Wright’s comment is enough to make some hollow heads laugh in swahili….

  • Ayphillydegreat 3 years ago

I will laugh in Swahili to anything an Arsenal all time great says. He’s some one that will talk and I will sit down and listen. His achievements speaks volumes and has inspired many youngsters. Not someone that thinks a player playing in the isreali league is world-class LMAO!!!

    • Well, someone who thinks players who play in the Israeli league are world class players is not me…. I believe all players presently in contention for slots in the Super Eagles squad are professions and merely playing in the Premier league doesn’t make any of them indispensable.

If that is too hard to comprehend, I cannot help you.

Remember Sunday Mba? I think he was playing for Manchester United when he scored the winning goals against Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso in Afcon 2013!!!

  • Ayphillydegreat 3 years ago

Not someone who thinks a flash in the pan player is world-class. LMAO!!

    • Mate, time and time again you keep missing the point.

I haven’t ascribed “world class status” to any player from any league; it is you who has done that.

All I have said is, regardless of where any player is playing, as a Nigerian professional football, he deserves to be considered for selection if he is doing well and the coach feels such a player will fit into his plans.

Ogu is not paying my wages neither is Ndidi!

They are all Nigerian professional footballers and whomever the coach pick; that is his perogative!!

    • I am eagerl waiting for your reply here to dish it back to you only as you like it.

      • Ayphillydegreat 3 years ago

I always have your time. I will only listen to someone who has achieved legendary status. Not someone who keeps contradicting himself all the time. There’s nothing you say that can change my position. You can shallow minded as much as you like that’s your personal vendetta, but I will continue to expose your sentimental reasonings.
