Arsenal are being linked with a big-money swoop for Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi when the transfer window opens. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to draft in a new defensive midfielder and has turned his attention to Illarramendi, who is struggling for regular game time at the Bernabeu.
The 25-year-old joined the European champions from Real Sociedad for £34million in 2013, but could now be heading to the Premier League with the Gunners.
Arsenal will have to pay £29million to land the player, who is also wanted by Liverpool. However the Reds will not be able to pay that much, which puts the Gunners in the box seat to do a deal.
