Mesut Özil is expected to start against Besiktas in the UEFA Champions League qualifier tie tonight and is looking forward to the game.
“We’ve to make it for the 17th participation in the #ucl-no matter how! tomorrow is the big day! #EmiratesStadium #AFC” Özil tweeted. The 25-year-old missed the first leg due to lacking match fitness after being given an extended holiday following his World Cup triumph with the German national team. Özil played a full 90 minutes in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Everton on the weekend. Arsenal will be hoping they qualify for a 17th successive Champions League season.
Besiktas broke the Gunners 12 match win streak in Champions League play-off games with last weeks goalless draw. The Black Eagles will qualify if they beat Arsenal or if the match finishes in score draw.
The Gunners have played against Turkish opposition seven times in Europe. Arsenal have defeated Turkish sides four times, drawn twice and lost once.
