Arsenal begins their FA cup title defence this weekend after winning it back to back and look set to land the third. Arsenal are however favourite to come out tops considering their run of forms and hunger for success. The tactical decision lies in midfield as the gunners always capitalise in their strength in midfield to upset visiting teams. Arsenal has won in 10 out of 11 home games this season, Midfielder Mattieu Flamini has not lost at the Emirates, so it’s going to be an Arsenal win. Though with a sometimes shaky defends line up when the first choice central defenders are not used. I go with Arsenal 3- Sunderland 1.

Arsenal will. Play this match as league leaders as well as f.a diffending camp. So what do you. Expect? Arsenal will surely carry the day by winning. 3 goals to 1.

  • Arsenal will probably field in Alexi Sanchez, and it will be a match Arsenal will not afford to lose because of their current form. Final Score (Arsenal 2 – Sunderland 0)

  • Of recent big Sam has been talking a lot instead of concentrating on how to pull Sunderland out of relegation zone. They are 19th on the log. Talking too much especially on matters that does not concern you is distracting and this may as well be good for Arsenal. Sam Allardyce has been complaining of a tight league/Fa schedule calling it “Diabolic and Stupid” and he has threaten to use a 2nd string team in the Fa cup 3rd round on Saturday. Arsenal are secretly praying it is like that because Arsene Wenger has that annoying habit of using players from the youth side mix with some senior team benchers to execute all other competitions except the league/champion league. It may not be different on Saturday considering that the league and Champion league are more important and 1st team players need to rest. This is the window for that rest. So we may be seeing players like Alex Iwobi, Ospina, Chambers, Gibbs, and youths’ team players like Julio Pleguezuelo, Krystian Bielik, D’uble Glosta, Barnaby Stingwing, Mandrake Magee. Maybe they may fasten the signing of the Egyptian Mohamed Elneny from Basel fc to test him. Meanwhile, Sunderland have signed a central defender Jan Kirchhhoff, 25, from Bayern Munich. He may be thrown into the battle. The way I see it is that if it is 2nd string vs 2nd string, it will be tight. If big Sam is merely mind gaming and feature his 1st string against a sure Arsenal 2nd String, problem for Arsenal. I think big Sam not empty threatening. It will be advantage Arsenal plus home advantage. Arsenal 2-0 Sunderland.

There might be a couple of unfamiliar starting line ups taking to the field in this Third Round FA Cup tie, but I do think Arsenal are more likely to play some of their stars to make sure they get through to the Fourth Round. Defending the FA Cup should have the home team motivated and they do have enough time to prepare for the game at Liverpool on Wednesday. With a week off from their last Premier League game Arsene Wenger will make a few changes, but the injuries mean the bulk of the starting eleven are likely to be more familiar than what Sunderland will send to the field. Sam Allardyce couldn’t hide his disdain for the way the fixtures have been produced and openly admitted he can’t play a strong team with a free mind. Survival in the Premier League is far too important for that so the fringe players will be given an opportunity. The first team haven’t defended well enough to think the reserves can come in and make a big difference and I think Arsenal move through comfortably in this one. A routine home win for Arsenal for sure. Arsenal 3-0 Sunderland. Chike Godson, Egbeda Lagos.

Arsenal are defending champions of the FA Cup. They have been making good results recently especially on home soil. The Gunners will host a team that had lost their last five games in all competitions before defeating Aston Villa last weekend. Big Sam knows he will need to focus more on the league right now and probably won't field his most dangerous players here ahead of their EPL clash with Swansea at the Liberty stadium. Arsenal have the edge to win here; being defending champions, playing on home soil and the motivation they have currently with results going their way should be vital in triumphing Sunderland. It is true that Cup games do not go as supposed most times, at least Arsenal lost to Sheffield in a cup tie some months ago, but with the tenacity of the team, they should find it easy here. I am predicting Arsenal to win here, with Giroud and Ozil to have a great game (if they start). Arsenal 3-1 Sunderland. Stephen Williams, Magodo, Lagos.

Back to back FA cup winner Arsenal will kick start their cup defense against struggling sunderland at the emirate stadium in their quest to winning it for a third consecutive time. Arsenal are currently on top of the premier league with 2 points while sam alladyce team are battling with regulation. Arsenal have won 5 of their last six games while sunderland have only managed 1 win in their last six games. Arsenal have been in splendid form at home as they are unbeaten in front of their home fans since september this season and they have kept seven clean sheet in 13 of their home games. While sunderland have been very poor in their travels this season, they have only managed 1 win, 1 draw and losing 8 games away from home. Arsenal are yet to lose to sunderland in their last 7 games, winning 5 and drew 2 in the process. Both teams have a very important epl game to play next mid-week and if sam alladyce should stick to his word he will be fielding a very week team against the gunners which gives them a very slim chance to carry the day. Arsene wenger might also be resting some players but i don’t think they will be short of quality for this match. Considering the poor away form of sunderland and again having the worse defensive record in the league this season, i don’t see them posing any threat to the gunners. Its going to be another home clean sheet for the gunners. Its Arsenal 2 vs 0 sunderland. Harrison Donald Ogu, Benin City.

FA cup holder Arsenal host sunderland today at the emirate stadium in their attempt to win a record equalling third consecutive FA cup. Both Arsene Wenger and Sam Allardyce have made it eminently clear that Saturday’s match will see several reserve and youth players being given run outs as key men rest after the remorseless run of festive fixtures. So today’s fixture might not be as glamorous as expected. Arsenal are current in superb form, they have won 5 of their last six game and are currently league leaders while sunderland are currently battling in the relegation boiling water, they are 19th in the table. Arsenal have one of the best home record this season while sunderland have a dismal performance playing away from home. They have only amass just four points in 10 away games this season. Sunderland have also failed to beat arsenal in 7 consecutive games, losing 5 and draw 2. With the current form of arsenal and again playing at home, i see them extending their dominace against the black cats. But with sunderland having managed to find the back of the net consecutively in 5 games away from home, i see them scoring too. Arsenal 3:1 Sunderland. Priscilla, Edo state.

Its going to be an exciting weekend as the 3rd round of the FA cup kicks off with Arsenal hosting premier league relegation candidate sunderland at Emirate stadium. Recent form and statistic shows that arsenal are favourite to carry the day. Arsenal have won 5 and lost 1 of their last 6 games and are currently league leaders while sunderland have won just one of their last 6 games and the currently sit in the 19th spot. Big sam Allardyce have promised to rest some key players for this game because of the all important mid-week clash with swansea in the battle for relegation. Arsene wenger may also rest big players like ozil, cech, koscieny and giroud for the clash with liverpool. But with more players sidelined injured i still see arsenal lining up a strong team with arteta coming back to the team. With the level of seriousness by both teams for this game and also considering the poor defensive play of sunderland i for see an early elimination for sam allardyce team. Arsenal 2 – 1 sunderland. Jeff Ogu, benin.

Arsenal vs sunderland is going to be an interesting game. Arsenal are the defending champion and will be going for a third consecutive title in a row. Wenger have promised to play a strong team while sunderland coach have promised to rest most of his key players for the swansea game which he think is more important. With this, i think its going to be a big win for the gunners. Arsenal 3 vs 0 sunderland. Doubra, edo state.

Arsenal vs sunderland game in this 3rd round Fa cup is going to be very tough. Both managers are expected play a weak team and rest some key players for the epl game. Arsenal will be playing liverpool while sunderland will be playing swansea. Arsenal are in fine form at the moment and tqey are currently ontop of the epl table. But the same can not be said of sunderland as they are languishing in 19th position. Although today’s FA cup tie is going to be different as the match is going to be very difficult. The match is going to end in a draw or arsenal can run away with a narrow victory. I will predict Arsenal 1 vs 0 runderland. Isreal Oyibo, Edo state.

  • Oluokun Ademola 6 years ago

The clash between Arsenal and Sunderland should not be concluded as an easy one for the gunners. Sunderland may look so poor this season, but then they have a manager in Big Sam who knows how to deal with top clubs in the EPL and his records during his time at Bolton against Arsenal should not be thrown into the bin. Sunderland are coming into this game on the back of a comfortable win against Aston Villa while Arsenal had to fight hard to get a slim win against Newcastle. So, for me, it will be a tight game. Arsenal are sure to dominate the midfield but then Big Sam should leave the midfield for Arsenal and stick to his long ball pattern and hopefully The Black Cats will pick a point from Arsenal turf. Arsenal 1:1 Sunderland. Oluokun Ademola, Fct, Abuja

Two EPL sides will dig it out in the third round of the FA Cup. Arsenal are big favourites, even more as they are hosts. Arsenal are also in good impressive form. After the defeat to Southampton at Boxing Day, they managed to win the next two games in the Premier League. Arsenal are sitting at the top of the log and that is no fluke. Arsenal are more consistent and solid this season and that informs why they are regarded as title favourite. The atmosphere in the squad is good, while the players
confidence is high. And they have something which was missing last year – Arsenal learned to win even when they play bad. That was exactly the case against Newcastle. For this match, Wenger led team will be missing the injured Tomas Rosicky, Danny Welbeck, Jack Wilshere, Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez (though he is close to return). Sunderland on the other hand are sitting in the drop zone. However, they managed to win the first match in 2016 by beating fellow strugglers- Aston Villa with 3:1 at Stadium of Light. I believe Big Sam will rotate the players in order to keep some of them fresh for Wednesday’s match against Swansea City in the Premier League. Irrespective of his tactical decision, The Cats are sure to go down against an in-form Arsenal side. I predict Arsenal 3 Sunerland 1. James Okeke. Abuja

Arsenal hosting sunderland at emirate is going to be a great game. Despite the fact that both coaches have promise to give opportunities to their second string team and younger players. So both teams will going into today’s game also having in mind their mid week game inwhich arsenal travel to visit liverpool while sunderland play swansea. Arsenal have been great this season at home while sunderland have been very poor on the road and they also have the worse defense record alther they will be hoping to doing better in today’s game but i don’t see that happening. Victory for the home team. Arsenal 3 vs 0 sunderland. Favour okada.

The Gunners will kick start their FA Cup defense against a struggling but determine Sunderland. Manager Arsene Wenger could be satisfied with their narrow win against Newcastle but face a tricky game against Sunderland. While The Black Cats are deeply involved into the relegation battle but their convincing win against Aston Villa could lift the lid. The question will be, “where does Allardyce priority lies” whether to concentrate on the two away fixture in the EPL or play to win against an informed Arsenal side. The latter looks like a mirage but you can never say never in modern football especially EPL. Both managers will rotate the players, however Wenger have a longer roster. Arsenal should win the match and I believe they will secure the victory after the first half. Arsenal 3-0 Sunderland. Stephen Adefemi, FCT, Abuja

  • Adeyemi Abosede 6 years ago

The season is looking so good for the gunners as they are currently occupying the top spot in the EPL. Arsenal’s players are playing with more sense of responsibility and if they continue like this, they will be unstoppable. Arsenal may well have been dreaming of retaining the FA Cup for the third consecutive time, that is not the case with Sunderland cos they have more serious issues in the league at the moment as they are fighting to avoid relegation. In this game they will lose once more. Arsenal 2-0 Sunderland. Abosede Adeyemi. ABUJA.

Attention will be shifting from the EPL to the FA Cup third round this weekend as Arsenal play host to Sunderland. Although this match is being viewed by some as a much appreciated break from the perils of the Premier League, it is still a very tricky away tie against the side who have won this competition two years in a row. Though, some have already written the game off in Arsenal’s favour, but then I believe that it is not going be as easy as being speculated. Arsenal must improve on what they did against Newcastle if they must get the maximum point on their home soil against Sunderland. It will be a chance to rest tired legs, and nurse out niggling injuries and that will give an opportunity to young players and those that have fizzle out of the starting XI to show their worth. Sam Allardyce will most likely adopt “the parking the bus” approach to prevent Arsenal from gaining space to wreak havoc. They will try hard to do that but then I see them succumbing to Arsenal. It will be 1-0 in Arsenal’s favour. Bamidele John. FCT

  • Nzeh Chukwudi 6 years ago

Sam Allardyce has bemoan the EPL fixtures congestion which sees The Black Cats playing three away games in a space of 7 Days. I see Sam playing “mind game” by insisting that he will field a weak side against the league leaders and so, Wenger must be careful no to under rate them as that may prove very costly. Arsenal should not be carried away with the prospect of wining the FA Cup for the third time in a row but rather they must show more commitment and determination against Sunderland who will likely be playing 11 men behind the ball and so there should not be a drop in their intensity. Arsenal will show “class” and Sunderland will show “strength”. Arsenal 2:1 Sunderland. Nzeh Chukwudi, Abuja.

FA cup holder Arsenal will be hoping they can repeat the same feat last season as the quest to retaining the trouphy start with them hosting relegation struggling sunderland. Sunderland have had a torrid performance this season, they have last five straight games in a row although they won their last game against astonvilla. The two side met last month with Arsenal running away with a 3-1 victory. Arsenal have won 12 of their last FA cup matches and they have also been in great form this season playing at home. Sunderland are yet to beat arsenal in their last 7 matches. Although they beat arsenal in the Fa cup 2012. Sam allardyce have promised to rest most of his first team players for this game. If he does that, i see him losing heavily. He has the poorest defense in the league and arsenal have been prolific up front. Its going to be a high score game. Arsenal 4 vs 0 sunderland. Chucks, Delta state poly.

  • tessy Atakpeze 6 years ago

High flying Arsenal welcome struggling sunderland to emirate stadium in a bid to defend their fa cup trophy for the 3rd time in a row which is the oldest knockout competition in the world. Only blackburn rovers have succeeded in wining it 3times in a row in the 80’s.
Arsenal leads the epl and they have won their last 5 matches at the emirate. This makes them favouritet for this game. While sunderland ended a run of 5 defeats against astonvilla last week 3-1ironically, their losing streak started with the defeat to arsenal last month. Sunderland away form have also been very poor this season. They have only picked 4 points in their travel losing 8. The gunners have won their last 12 Fa cup games dating back to february 2013 and they have won against premier league opposition in the 3rd round for the past 3 years. Last 7 meetings between this two sides 5 wins for arsenal and 2 draw. Sunderland will be basking on the euphoria of wining their last game 3-1 to astonvilla as a morale booster into the game, hoping they can produce the same performance that saw them defeat arsenal 2-0 in this same tournament in 2012. With sunderland currently swimming in relegation waters in the epl and again playing their next 2 games away from home. I see allardyce keeping to his words and resting most of his key players just to keep them fresh to prosecute those games. Arsenal on the other hand might also do same because they will be travelling to anfied to take on liverpool on wednesday in the epl. With the way sunderland have defended this season and again fielding a weaker team, i don’t see them having the quality to be able to stop the attacking forays of the gunners. With the support of the home crowd, i see a big win for the gunners. Arsenal 3 vs 0 sunderland. Tessy Atakpeze, Delsu.
