Nigeria's top ranked table tennis star Aruna Quadri has admitted that his forehand was key to his victory over Egyptian Amr Assar in the final of the ITTF 2016 African Cup in Khartoum, Sudan.

Quadri beat Assar 1-4 (11-8, 8-11, 7-11, 6-11, 6-11) to earn a spot to represent Africa for the third consecutive time at the Liebherr Men’s World Cup to be played later in the year in Saarbrücken, Germany.

Having lost his first game in the finals, the 28 year old said: “It was 50:50 against Omar, my forehand was the key to winning, I lost the first game, if I had lost the second I would have lost the match.

“My thanks to God, to my sponsors Joola and Sengler; also my thanks to Segun Toriola for his advice, he helped me relax and gave me more energy.”

Quadri's maiden outing in the  ITTF- World competition was in 2009 in Russia while in 2014 in Dusseldorf, Germany he stunned the world with his performance which shot him to the top 30 in the world.

And the 2012 Olympian is determined to work harder to achieve his goal representing Africa.

“Everybody knows me know and wants to beat me,” added Quadri. “I will work even harder to achieve my goal.”
