By Kayode Ogundare in Uyo:
Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey has confessed his love for Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi but reckons Nwankwo Kanu is the best player of his generation, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
“I’m a huge admirer of Mikel Obi. I like the way he keeps things very simple on the pitch and makes it seem so simple and easy to do but Nwankwo Kanu is my idol. He’s the best midfielder I’ve ever seen play football. He was a genius,” Partey told CSN in Uyo as Atletico Madrid prepared to face the Super Eagles in a friendly on Tuesday.
Partey, who is in the Atletico Madrid team to face Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Tuesday’s GOtv Max Cup friendly international in Uyo, also wished all the African countries going to Russia 2018 all the best of luck at the World Cup while lamenting Ghana’s inability to qualify for the Mundial.
He told CSN said: “It was unfortunate that Ghana will not be at the World Cup. We tried our best but we were not good enough. That’s behind us now. We will look forward to the future. I congratulate the teams going to the World Cup.
“They are good enough to qualify so we all should support them because they will be flying the flag of Africa.”
On his club future, the 24-year old all-action player who played 33 league games for Atletico this past season, said his future remains at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium and he is not thinking of moving away.
“I’m not aware of any speculations concerning my future. I’m at Atletico now and I want to remain here for as long as they want me. I have a contract here and I intend to honour it,” he added.
