Awaziem: Making 30-Man Eagles List My Chance To Work Harder, Make Final W/Cup Squad

By Johnny Edward:

Chidozie Awaziem feels he still has a good chance of going to the 2018 World Cup in Russia with the Super Eagles of Nigeria after making the Gernot Rohr’s 30-man provisional list released on Monday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The Nantes defender, who has won three caps, was named in the 30 man provisional squad for Nigeria  despite his poor outing against Serbia in a recent international friendly in London.

He says that he is motivated to work harder and regain the manager’ss trust when competition for places hots up in camp.

“Its a rare opportunity for me and I think that has given me the motivation to work harder and want to get in to prove that my performance against Serbia was a one-off,” Awaziem told CSN.

“I’ve been in a lot of squads in the past year but this one I must make it count. The World Cup is every player’s dream and I am happy to be in the preliminary squad. The fight is still on.

“And I know if I play to my ability I will have a good chance. It’s up to me to do that.”

Meanwhile, the centre-back is expected to return to his parent club, FC Porto at the expiration of his loan deal at Nantes.

“I settled in well at Nantes but I want to focus on making the final 23 with the Super Eagles.

“After the World Cup, a decision will be made on where next I will be playing.”

Awaziem made 23 Ligue 1 appearances for Nantes who are 10th in the table.

Nantes will face Strassbourg at home in their final league match of the season on Saturday.

  • Y 30 man list. I thought it shud be 35 man  list for more competitive play in d team . As it is we already know d players dat wil be selected. Some half fitted  players wil make d team.

I think this 30-man list is just ok or anything less than 30 would have been better. Some countries have shown more focus and seriousness in going ahead to name their 23-man squad. It is just less than 30 days to the world cup with limited camping time. All focus should narrow down to team cohesion, imbibing of team philosophy, team chemistry and planned tactical strategies.

no beating around bro, we gat 29 days to the world cup and u still think we gat time for trials?? Even if 100 players are called upon at the end it would be prunned down to 23. Genort rhor already knows what he wants and has made it known to all right after we qualified for the mundial that he’s gonna stick to his team at the world cup proper, maybe just maybe 1 or 2 changes. Some teams already submitted thier 23 man list iffu dnt knw.
