Black Queens of Ghana prevented what would have been a major upset as they came from a goal down to beat debutantes Kenya 3-1 in Group B on Sunday at the ongoing Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Kenya took a shock lead in the 23rd minute through Essie Akida.
In the 50th minute Ghana drew level thanks to Samira Suleman.
The Black Queens extended their lead on 72 minutes from the penalty spot through Elizabeth Addo after a Kenyan player was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the 18 yard box.
And in the 91st minute Addo secured the with for Ghana as she grabbed her second goal to end the game 3-1.
Ghana’s next game comes up on Wednesday against the Super Falcons who thrashed Mali 6-0 earlier on Sunday.
Kenya will hope to bounce back from their opening day disappointment when they will face Mali.
