Awoniyi Focuses On The U20 World Cup

–Admits Tough job with the U23s Against Zambia

Flying Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has swiftly shifted his focus towards helping Nigeria to win the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Awoniyi is the newest sweetheart of Nigerian football and the 17 year-old striker exclusively told from Lusaka, Zambia, that he is now thinking about reporting to the Flying Eagles camp after helping the U23 side qualify for the 2015 All Africa Games.

Nigeria defeated Zambia 2-1 to qualify 2-1 on aggregate after a 0-0 draw in the first leg played in Abuja, Nigeria two weeks ago.

“The game against Zambia was a very tough one. They were desperate to win too and qualify for the All African Games but we never gave up. Thank God we won. I want to thank every Nigerian for their support.

“After helping the U23 team, my mind is now on the U20 camping for the World Cup,” Awoniyi gushed.

And talking about the U20 World Cup, Awoniyi told that the Flying Eagles are not afraid of their opponents at the U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

“We are not afraid of our group opponents at the World Cup. With God on our side, no team will stop us.

“Brazil may be a world power in football and we respect them ,but we (Flying Eagles) are a team destined for victory.

“With the trainings, friendlies and great coaching from our wonderful coaches, I believe we will do our best.

“We respect Brazil, but not afraid of them, that’s two different things,” Awoniyi, who is reportedly attracting interests from Manchester United, Everton and Esperance amongst other clubs across Europe and Africa further stated.

Aside Brazil, the Flying Eagles will also play against Hungary and Korea DPR in Group E of the U20 World Cup. gathered that the Dream Team VI that also paraded Awoniyi’s U20 teammates, Bernard Bulbwa and Mustapha Abdullahi in the All African Games qualifier on Sunday against Zambia will arrive Abuja on Tuesday morning.
