Flying Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi hopes to be in top shape for Nigeria’s 2015 FIFA U20 World Cup action in New Zealand, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The youngster on whose shoulders mainly lies Nigeria’s goalscoring burden tells Completesportsnigeria.com that heading to the World Cup which kicks off on May 30 and ends on June 20 in good health is uppermost in his mind.
“We’ve prepared for the World Cup but we are not carried away by our recent successes.
“Yes we are optimistic though and yes, I’m in good health. I’m fit and that is what I pray to God for always. I want to be fit when the final squad is released,” Awoniyi tells Completesportsnigeria.com.
Awoniyi insists he and Flying Eagles teammates hold no fears as they get set to face Brazil, Korea DPR and Hungary. He also reveals he is looking forward to welcoming some of his teammates at U17 level who were absent at the African Youth Championship.
“The AYC was a good Championship for us. I thank God for the title and for the goals I scored. When a couple of my teammates join us, we shall be stronger,” says the striker who has a pre-contract with Swedish side, FF Kalmar but is a subject of transfer rumours lately.
The Eagles have played some tune up friendlies and have resumed camping for the U20 World Cup assignment.
