Super Eagles midfielder Ramon Azeez has revealed that Congolese forward Thievy Bifouma mocked him in the wake of Nigeria’s inability to defend her AFCON crown at the African Cup of Nations which kicks off in Equatorial Guinea next weekend.
After romping back through the qualifying rounds with just a win to seal their qualification spot, the Super Eagles failed to make the home advantage count by forcing South Africa to a 2-2 draw in Uyo, – much to Bifouma’s amusement.
“You beat us in Congo to bounce back but you failed to win your home game against South Africa,” Ramon revealed what Bifouma told him to Complete Sports.
“You should have let us win that game to save us the stress of flying to Sudan for the final game.”
Azeez was left out of Nigeria’s last four games, but the 22-year-old harbour no grudge.
“Everybody cannot play at the same time. I will be supporting the team. We are no more African champions and its important to start afresh,” he said.
Azeez has been capped five times by Nigeria at senior level.
