Babangida: Eagles Must Beat Sudan

Ex-international, Tijani Babangida has called on the Super Eagles to have confidence in themselves as they travel to Omdurman to take on Sudan in one of their 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers scheduled for October 11.

The former Ajax Amsterdam of Holland winger who spoke to Complete Sports at the weekend said the last two games the Super Eagles played should be forgotten while they focus on how to win the remaining matches in the campaign.

“Nigeria won the last edition and it will be sad if we did not qualify but with the ways things are now, I don’t believe that we are out yet, the players need to work really hard and make sure they prepare well for the upcoming matches”, begins the Taraba FC boss.

“Keshi has invited his players and the only thing I can tell him is to wish him well but he must realize that Nigerians are not happy with the two matches played so far and he must come up with a strong selection that can erase the past results from the mind of our people.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles are expected to return to camp in Abuja next week to start preparation for the double header games and Babangida has tasked them to make sure they win the home and away matches.

Keshi has picked his players and the only thing we can do now is to support him, nevertheless he needs to understand that he is representing over 150 million Nigerians. I do not belong to the school of thought ‘call this or that player’ but I want to take Keshi down memory lanes; our most decorated player Kanu Nwankwo played for Nigeria at the under 17 level in 1993 and was invited to the Super Eagles by coach Clemens Westerhorf, he played some friendly matches with them before the world cup in USA although he was not part of the team but he was able to play with the big boys, garnered experience and later established himself in the team. I don’t see anything wrong with inviting Iheanacho and Haruna Lukman to fight for their shirts but Keshi seems to have programmed his mind against some players which is affecting the team. If u want to talk about players form then Mikel and Victor Moses shouldn’t have been at the last world cup. Please SOK invite these players and let’s have free flow of passes in the mid-field then our strikers would start scoring. I know you will face the music if you fail but you can invite them for friendly matches where you can experiment because you have not stopped experimenting all this while. How many years are we going to spend on this experiment, we are the defending champions and we just need to identify the areas we need new players that’s all. I hope it won’t be too late before SOK bows for public opinion. God bless our darling Super Eagles.
