Babayaro Insists On Foreign Coach For Eagles

Babayaro Insists On Foreign Coach For Eagles

–Says No indigenous coach right for Nigeria

Former Nigeria international Emmanuel Babayaro has declared that no Nigerian coach is good enough to handle the Super Eagles.

Babayaro added that he was never convinced from the onset that Stephen Keshi was the right man for the Eagles job.

“I don’t think Keshi is the man for the job. I never thought any Nigerian coach is the right person for the Eagles. And note this, it has nothing to do with their ability as coaches. As coaches they may be terrific, but I have always maintained, an average Nigerian myself inclusive, we are very sentimental people and football and sentiments they don’t go together.

“That is why we have this situation where Keshi never invites the best hands, for one sentimental reason or the other. On a good day, somebody else without sentiments would have invited every other person.”

“We have to bring the players. They will create competition which at the end of the day makes every other player better.”

Criticisms have mounted over Keshi’s non-inclusion of Villarreal striker Ikechukwu Uche, saying recently that the player has said he should be begged before he would return to play for Nigeria.

Look at you Emmanuel, is that not why Joseph Dosu benched you after Togo friendly where you conceded three zero before the Olympics because of your ‘I TOO KNOW ATTITUDE’ i sorry for you for making such silly comment about Nigerian coaches. You want foreign coach to come abi? I know all these your nonsense is because your brother IK Uche has not been recalled, Emmanuel Iwuala, that is your real name, i know you very well and with your sentiments. You are an Ibo like same Uche so you must fight for him but let me tell you, Keshi despite an Ibo refused to be sentimental. leave Keshi to do his job.

  • Thank you, Marsh. They are ones who would canvass for an indigenous coach, when d white one comes to eat bigger money from us and still mess around. Now because Keshi will not tolerate nonsense in his team, it has become sentiment. Why cant u just submit ur suggestions to Keshi? Well, u ve said already, that u were never in support of the idea from day 1. So, all this while that Keshi was making records, u were praying for him to fall for u to start ur useless chatters, abi? By God’s grace, i believe Keshi will continue, and he will soon prove u all false, because i know he is learnijg from all these events than all of u who sit from home to judge. A prophet, they say, is not accepted or valued by his own people. Dont be amazed when to ur utter shock, u see God use Keshi and his Eagles to win AFCON 2015.

How COME he is being referred to as Babayaro ?

    • Marsh 7 years ago

In case you want to know, Cele and Emmanuel are Ibos and Babayaro is their adopted father. It’s not a hiding thing.

@Marsh I dont have anything against Keshi, However Babayaro is making some good points. I am not sure if a foreign coach is the way to go, but Keshi has made many many sentimental decisions that is negatively affecting gthe team.

I have spent a long time looking and reading multiple Nigerian Football Websites. Many Nigeria coaches, current players and ex-players have commented on Nigeria’s poor performances Vs Congo and South Africa. Most if not all of these comments lack a few things:
    1) A proper analysis of the tactics that Keshi used during these games.
    2) Identifying what went wrong from a footballing and tactical point of view.
    3) How did Keshi respond to the tactical maneuvers of the opposition.
    4) What can be done and changed from a tactical point of view in future matches, and who are the players best suited to implement and execute these tactical changes in future matches.

What this has now turned into is a sentimental camp who are backing Keshi on one side and the camp who want Keshi to go on the other side. The questions we should ask ourselves in Nigeria is based on the evidence of Nigeria’s football performance in the last 10-15 games is Keshi implementing and mentoring the players to play and win with the right footballing Philosophy and tactics. Keshi has had a very long time to teach his footballing philosophy and tactics to these group of players, so building a team cannot be used as an excuse anymore.

Players and Coaches saying we are going to qualify or we will win our remaining matches without even identifying what the problems are is shocking and very suprising. This kinda stuff does not happen in Europe and in the successful football nations like Brazil and Argentina. Even the United States and Uruguay when they lose the football experts are quick to indentify the problems that lead to the loss and educate the public.

Emenike has not scored a goal in the last 12 games he has played for Nigeria. Yet Keshi has found no genuine striking alternative. Nigeria has won only 1 game in the last 11 games since qualifying for the 2014 World cup. This is very poor.

@soccerin nigeria you have just said it ALL ohh, i rest ma case .

@ Marsh and Dan…Don’t let us be sentimental, be factual. We played in Confederation cup, what can we show for it? We won one match. Friendlies before World Cup – all drew matches, World cup – we managed to win one match. Is this result encouraging? 13 matches: we won 2 and drew 2 and lost all. A team is that very set up players that complement each other. Can you compare in terms of experience, achievement and present form of Oduamadi to Obafemi Martins, Nwofor to IK Uche? so on. We either need a new manager or a good and sound Technical Adviser to complement Keshi’s work. If Kehsi does not want this then he should resign.

You are to attend an Interview at Abuja, so you have to drive down from Lagos to Abuja to meet up, and for the success of it, Will you go on such long drive with deflated Extra Tyre(s)?

Yes, Keshi did! He traveled to Brazil with deflated bunch of players that he already knew they would never be useful there in the mun-dial.

In a nutshell, Keshi toiled with 170 Million people emotions. Our Match against France, we looked so set to win that match even after dominating possession for several minutes, once Onazi got injured, Nigeria was just erratic. No good replacement for Mikel, Onazi, Emenike, Osaze. He dumped Igiebor, Mba, Ideye and Ogu for Ramon Azeez, Michael Uchebo, Reuben Gabriel.

He didn’t even invite Martins, Uche Kalu, IK Uche, Rabiu Ibrahim (highly creative), Haruna Lukman, Obasi Ogbuke. He invited and took DEFLATED players to the world cup.

No sentiment in football when you want to have result, Keshi should either accept a good Technical Adviser or resign.

Pray for leaderships and stop criticizing them. I believe in Unity! lets unite as Nigerians and hope for the best in all spheres. Discourse are good but it shouldn’t make us loose our focus as a nation.

  • Saint Palmer 7 years ago

@ MARSH..you dont really need to stress yourself on stuffs you read on here, even if Keshi won the world cup yesterday and he loose an Afcon Qualifier match today you will still see some people on that will analyse how he is not the right man for the job,the fact that we ve passed through couple of white coaches after westerhof and all ends in the same shamble stories, they came here, earn millions of dollars, achieve nothing and left for their country, will you imagine a nigerian fan calling for foreign coach not to talk of an ex-player..?..but thats nigeria mentality for you, when you won,you are the best and when things are not too smooth you re not good enough

This is what I’m suggesting; remove mikel, bring in yahaya, iheanacho both of under 17, bring in martins, okechukwu and paul dike. Our potent pattern is using fast wingers to break opponent’s defence for our strikers to be free to do the damage.Mikel will not fit in for such pattern as he will be too slow. We need a combative mid fielder to complement Onazi in breaking midfield flow of the opponents and a suppoting striker like kelechi who uses his brain to create very clear chances for the strikers. Ejide tried in South Africa but he is less compose in goal, Enyeama should come in now. Defence work will be easièr if the midfield is compact. At their “official age”, those eaglets can fit in at the senior level.

@SoccerInNigeria, i think you have made some good point and is also a worry to me but i must admit that i disagree on the area of tactics. Not winning match is my concern and Keshi needs to address it as soon as possible which i believe he can, I am not being sentimental about anything as Sam Oged said but just factual about issues, Keshi has done well and we can’t take that away from him, if Keshi lack tactics how come he defeated Ivory coast and others to win the AFCON, even some say because big countries like Cameroon, Egypt etc did not come that we played a mediocre teams and was lucky to have won, that is to tell you how pathetic people can be in their mind. The truth of the matter is that this set of players that Keshi built this team around has totally lost the fighting spirit exhibited during the last AFCON and this is as a result of lack of competition in the team may be they have become demigod in their positions. Something has to be done and the truth is that Mba needs to be recall to take back that role, he’s a fighter and since he was dropped we can see effect on the team and i can assure you that if Mba is recalled you will see the bite in the attack and Emenike will start scoring goals. Sam talked about Igiebor being dropped, is it not better if he(Igiebor) is completely dropped? He has no business in that. Mba may not play in a big league but that guy is a big player. If we can get back Ideye and Mba, i tell you the team will balance and ready to go. Foreign coach will not do us any good but rather chop the money like Bora, Laggarback etc.

  • Marsh 7 years ago

@Saint Palmer, thanks bro, that is Nigeria mentality but the truth is that Keshi really need to get it right in our next match otherwise it will be game over. Again i trust in his ability to get this thing done.
