Balogun Assures He’s ‘Back On Track’ To Full Recovery From Rib Injury

By Adeboye Amosu:

FSV Mainz defender, Leon Balogun, has allayed fears in some quarters that he might miss out on a place in Nigeria’s squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia by providing a positive update on Twitter about his rib injury, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Balogun, 29, has missed Mainz’s last two league games against Augsburg and Leipzig due to the injury.

He last featured for Mainz in their 2-0 win against Freiburg at the OPEL Arena on April 16.

Mainz manager, Sandro Shwarz stated on Thursday during his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga clash against Borussia Dortmund that the defender had not been able to train fully with the rest of the squad.

But the centre-back has now assured he is on the track to attaining full fitness.

“Back on track 👟⚽️💥, “reads a tweet on Balogun’s Twitter handle, with a picture of him in training at the bottom.

Balogun has made 14 appearances for the Mainz in the Bundesliga this season with no goal yet to his name.

He is poised to leave the club at the end of the season as he will become a free agent in June.

English Premier League club Huddersfield are set to be the favourite to secure his services.

walahi. as long as ekong, balogun and awaziem are fit for the world cup, we can be rest assured the team will have a better chance of leaving the group.

    Thank God!

awaziem ke…make una no take that bobo go world cup ooo…she wetin he cause vs south Africa and Serbia…the experienced omeruo better d guy…you wan cause kasala

    • lambert 3 years ago

omeruo???? HE IS AN AVERAGE PLAYER?

    • Ayphillydegreat 3 years ago

Awaziem plays in a top 5 league and he was fantastic against Argentina and Serbia. Go and watch those two games again then you can come back and call him average whereas Omeruo is not. I like Omeruo, but Chidozie is ahead of him at the moment.

Abeg I prefer they dump Awaziem for Efe Ambrose. Efe Ambrose is doing well at his Scottish club Hibernia now and apart from that, he has world cup experience which could be of benefit to the team in Russia. Please CSN, Give us an update as to when the 35-man squad will be released. Thanks

  • With all due respect, our entire Super Eagles team is full of average players!

Saying one is more average than the other is delusion – in my view.

That said, they are all passionate, motivated and determined.

So, if one of them is injured, there is ample cover!

Omeruo is an average player, and Balogun is not?

For all the fan worship of Ndidi, there are still aspects of his game that needs to develop (and given time, he will develop this) So I am not overly worried if he is unavailable.

The present Super Eagles team at the moment is greater than the sum of it’s parts.

Without Moses, Ighalo, Mikel and a complete goalkeeper, we thrashed Argentina 4:2!

So, if any player gets injured, it will not be wise to already give up on others available to fill his place

    • Being a fan of a player is not synonymous with worshipping him, some use of words are ambiguous and not called for.

Point of correction, Mikel played in the friendly against Argentina.

Pls i have not heard anything frm Genot Roar abt getting a suitable nos 9 for d SE outing in worldcup.

No activities from the coaching staffs everyone is quiet and relaxed.. june is around d corner and no update on Cyrl desser, fernando adi etc..

Wait for the first list of 30 or 35 players which according to CSN will be submitted to NFF by 7th of May. Definitely it will be made public by next week. Lets just hope and pray the coach selects the best players for the WC. In any case I support the coach all the way.

I thought we are done with this Cyril Desser and Fernando Adi’s issue. You people should not start again o. Since Ighalo started banking goals now your Campaign Master (Kingmaker) is now silent and I thought his followers too will do the same please. Any name of striker released by Rohr this month should be acceptable by all cuz am sure we don’t know more than the coach. I pledge peace

      • Nicolsen 3 years ago

Igalo is Banking goals in China… thats a joke.. pls we wont accept anyhow list for the worldcup.. sentiments apart we need d best to be selected for nigeria.

        • Chairmanfemi 3 years ago

@Nicolsen are you trying to tell me Dessers and Adi are now the best??? And you say Ighalo banking goals in China is a joke?? If he doesn’t score, you people will complain that he’s not good and now he’s scoring goals and you now call it a joke? Wheras, kindly tell me the last time your Dessers and Adi scored a goal? Talk more of 4 goals in a match. That was why I said earlier that we don’t know more than the coach and the list of back-up strikers he releases should be acceptable by all cuz we can only stay here and post whatever we like, that doesn’t change the Coach’s mind. Peace

  • @Olla, I stand to be corrected;yes John Obi Mikel did play in the friendly against Argentina. I realised the mistake and meant to correct it – thank you for pointing it out.

Just to correct you; I did not use any ambiguous term. It is you who is ambiguous in your assertion.

I am entitled to my point of views and my perceptions so are you.

I did not mean any of my entries to be negative and the term”fan-worship” needs not to be construed negatively.

I am crazy about certain aspects of Moses Simon’s game (for example) and will like him to start against Croatia, is that fan worship? You are free to call it what you like!!!!!
