FSV Mainz defender Leon Balogun has been ruled out of Friday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Pharaohs ofEgypt and remains a major doubt for the second leg in Alexandria next Tuesday, Completesportsnigeria.com can report.
Balogun who missed his club's 1-1 draw in Bremen on Saturday due to a muscular injury is being programmed for the return leg in Alexandria on Tuesday next week according to a report from the communications department of the Nigerian Footbal Federation.
Completesportsnigeria.com also gathered from his club,FSV Mainz's website that the player hasn't travelled to Nigeria yet and may partake in his side's indoor training on Tuesday.
“Leon Balogun hasn’t linked up with the Nigeria team yet. The centre-back sustained a thigh injury in training and will be sidelined for the upcoming days. It’s not yet known whether he will join them at a later date or remain in Germany for the entire period,” the club stated.
Recall that Kenneth Omeruo has been ruled out of the clash with Egypt due to an hamstring injury while Ogenyi Onazi will play no part in the game in Kaduna due to suspension.
At press time, Odion Ighalo, Alex Iwobi, John Mikel Obi, Shehu Abdullahi, Aminu Umar, Ike Ezenwa, Aaron Samuel, Godfrey Oboabona, Etebo Oghenekaro all trained this evening.
Carl Ikeme, Efe Ambrose, Kelechi Iheanacho and Azubuike Okechukwu,Ahmed Musa, Moses Simon, Victor Moses and Fanendo Adi are expected to land in Abuja on Monday night.
The likes of South Africa–based goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, defenders Stanley Amuzie and Elderson Echiejile and midfielder Ogenyi Onazi would arrive in Lagos on Monday night and travel to Abuja by first flight on Tuesday.
