Balogun To Miss Mainz’s Next Two Matches, Doubtful For Zambia Clash

By Johnny Edward:

Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun suffered a muscle strain in FSV Mainz's 3-2 home loss to Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Saturday and will miss his club's next two matches, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Balogun who had to be substituted just ten minutes into the game could be out of Nigeria's 2018 World Cup qualifier against Zambia in Ndola in a fortnight.

This could be the second time Balogun will be missing international duty in a year.

Before now, the former Darmstadt 98 defender ruled himself out of the double header clash against Egypt in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in March 2016.

"Balogun will miss the Zerofivers’ upcoming Europa League fixture against Gabala FC on Thursday, as well as the weekend’s Bundesliga game against VfL Wolfsburg," Mainz's official website revealed on Monday.

Balogun has made eight appearances for the Super Eagles since making his debut against Mexico in 2014.
