Nigeria defender Leon Balogun has revealed that he nurses no regret joining FSV Mainz in the summer despite SV Darmstadt 98 promotion to the Bundesliga, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Balogun told Mainz’s official website in an interview, that his discussion with his new club coach Martin Schmidt and the General Manager Christian Heidel convinced him to join the club.
He however admits that in terms of tactics, Mainz isn’t different from SV Darmstadt 98, but he believes his flexibility in defence was a massive advantage for him when he joined the club.
“Tactically, it is not a complete change for me. But I think that we here are more offensive than Darmstadt because I have to adjust on a few things, ”Balogun stated.
“Right from the start of my career, I have always learnt to adjust which has seen me drift to the right-back position.
“I used to be striker, and then I dropped back to the middle and now defence,”
Meanwhile, I see myself also more right-back, as I have no problem playing there now.”
He also relishes the prospect of competing with German right back Daniel Brosinski for the coming season.
“I feel ready to compete with Daniel Brosinski whom I get on well with in the team,” he said.”
