–Eagles star impresses on Darmstadt debut
Super Eagles one cap full back, Leon Balogun impressed for his new side Darmstadt 98 on his debut, as they held Bochum to a 1-1 draw away from home.
The game was Balogun’s first since breaking his ankle on the 3rd of June in a World Cup friendly between Nigeria and Mexico.
He joined Darmstadt a fortnight ago as a free player from Fortuna Dusseldorf, and was denied a win on his debut by a late goal in stoppage time by Mikel Forssell.
Playing from his preferred role as a right full back, Leon was part of the move that lead to Darmstadt taking the lead through Romain Bregerie.
Aside from his contribution to the goal, defensively he kept Bochum dangerman, Michael Gregoritsch at bay, leading to the winger’s substitution.
The Nigerian showed no rustiness and played the entire duration of the game for the Bundesliga promotion hopefuls.
The result keeps alive Darmstadt hopes of moving up to the top league as despite being placed 6th on the log, they are only three points behind leaders, Ingolstadt.
The former Werder Bremen youngster isn’t a stranger when it comes to gaining promotion, as he has twice succeeded with Hannover 96 and Werder Bremen in the past.
