Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun has confirmed that he will miss the team’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt in Alexandria on Tuesday.
The Mainz star was expected to be fit for Tuesday’s clash after missing Friday’s first meeting in Kaduna.
But in a series of tweets on Friday, Balogun delivered bad news.
“To all the Super Eagles supporters wondering/asking if I would still join my brothers in camp. I now officially announce that I won’t,” Balogun wrote.
“I pulled my hamstring last week in training. That’s why I didn’t play for my club @1FSVMainz05 last weekend and didn’t join the Super Eagles.
“My club’s medicals and I did everything possible in order to keep chances for me to play the 2nd game. Wednesday I returned to team training
“The NFF was informed at all times and prepared my flight to Cairo for Saturday already. Until then I would be training with my club
“Unfortunately I suffered a setback in training this morning that forced me to call of for the 2nd game as well. I’m gutted about this but I have to take care of my body now to remain injury-free. Pls understand that I couldn’t speak on this issue before.
“I just don’t talk about things if they’re not 100% sure and until this morning I thought I’d join my brothers in Cairo tomorrow.
“Enough about me – we have a game to win!! Good luck to @NGSuperEagles I have faith in this team, they will make us happy today.”
