Beijing 2015: Okagbare Draws Fraser-Pryce In 100m Semis

Blessing Okagbare has been drawn in the same semi-final heat with Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the woman she is hoping to dethrone as world champion Monday in Beijing.

The Nigerian double Commonwealth sprint champion will run from lane 4 with Fraser-Pryce running from lane six. Cote d’Ivoire’s Marie-Jose Talou who ran 10.95 in the first round Sunday morning will run in between the two heavyweights in the first semi final at 12.40pm Nigerian time.

Also drawn in the same heat with Okagbare are USA’s English Gardner who i2n paper is the second fastest woman in the world coming to these championships and another Jamaican, Shefone Simpson, the 2006 Commonwealth Games champion.

Okagbare qualified for Monday’s semi final after winning her first round heat in 11.07 seconds, one hundreth of a second better than Natasha Morrisson from Jamaica.

USA’s Torie Bowie won the first round heat with 10.88 seconds, joint fastest qualifying time with Fraser-Pyrce  who won the fourth heat.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Michel-Lee Ahye won the third heat while Dafne Schippers won the fifth heat.
