Completesportsnigeria.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU rates Super Eagles players following their 2-0 defeat against Serbia in a friendly match on Tuesday…
FRANCIS UZOHO 6/10
Conceded twice in his third outing for Nigeria. The young goalkeeper looked more confident in goal on occasion and make a couple of important saves. But he should have done better with the ball that crossed the line that the referee did not count. Still appeared nervous at times.
TYRONNE EBUEHI 4/10
The right-back didn’t live up to his rating in the game. Ebuehi’s defending was below average and he also offered little going forward.
WILLIAM TROOST-EKONG 4/10
Didn’t quite hit the usual standard in the absence of his regular partner Leon Balogun who missed the game through illness. He was caught out in possession a number of times, did not deal decisively with balls into the box and was not at his best in the game.
CHIDOZIE AWAZIEM 5/10
The Nantes centre-back did npt do badly in what was his second start for the Super Eagles. He made a couple of important blocks and proved he could be a good replacement for Balogun, but he also contributed to the poor defending of balls into the box.
BRYAN IDOWU 4/10
Did not Improve much on his performance from the previous game against Poland and still did not do enough to prove he is right man for the position.
OGENYI ONAZI 4/10
An error-strewn performance from the stand-in captain who failed to lead by example and was duly hauled off in the second half.
JOEL OBI 4/10
The Torino of Italy midfielder gave a below-par showing in the encounter and didn’t do his chances of picking a regular berth in the team any good.
WILFRED NDIDI 5/10
Toiled hard to co-ordinate things in the middle of the park with little or no success. Although he showed flashes of brilliance on two or three occasions, the Leicester City midfielder won’t be happy with his performance either.
ALEX IWOBI 6/10
The Arsenal man was the team’s most lively player after dropping into a midfield role in the second half. He may be the right man to direct things in the middle in the absence of captain Mikel Obi in future.
VICTOR MOSES 4/10
A disappointing showing from the winger who only played for 45 minutes.
AHMED MUSA 4/10
Preferred in the No.9 role ahead of Odion Ighalo but lacked service upfront and hardly touched the ball.
SUBSTITUTES
ODION IGHALO 5/10
Looked lively following his introduction for Victor Moses after the break and was unlucky not to get a goal in the game.
MOSES SIMON 4/10
Did npt do anything to affect the game positively following his introduction.
JOHN OGU 4/10
Picked up a stupid yellow card for elbowing an opponent few minutes after his introduction.

Why is no one arguing with the ratings this time around? When this website rated them low against Poland, you all cried fowl (we were lucky to win that game). This is a reality check. The Super Eagles aren’t really super.
How could NFF choosen that stadium for a big friendly match? The atmosphere was not friendly at all.
No excuses, they got everything wrong. Something went wrong in that match. Out 180 millions people, we are still struggling to build a solid team. Hmm, if to say we were really played against Serbia and we been beaten 2-0 that would be fine but for this display,
Nba. No no no no. Sorry, coach Rohr still have a huge mountain to climb. God bless Nigeria!!!

Ighalo put up worst performance
How? In which match? He came on and instantly gave the attack a bite…bringing the hollywood passes down, holding off defenders and laying down the ball for fellow attackers. You expect him to score a hat-trick abi, with the mumbo jumbo heavenward balls from midfield. Or you dint notice the midfield creativity was zero, at times looked like i was watching the Stoke City of Tony Pulis playing…no composed play at all. Its under such conditions you expect more from ighalo. C’mon say sth else.
u sabi football jare leave that guy make e dey yarn okpoto
The problem yesterday was largely on the midfield and defense. The SE performance yesterday was grossly below expectation. More work required.
It was a very poor display for the super eagles they just have to improve
@bombay leave them. They criticized the ratings because we won. Now nobody is saying anything. That’s Nigeria for you. When I said we were lucky to win Poland people said it’s a lie. In fact we had more shot on target yesterday than against Poland. I for one have always said it a friendly match is meant to test players ability not by inviting them and keeping them on the bench every time or bringing them on 5 minutes from time. He was only interested in a win and not to work on the team. Has he tried looking at the npfl for creative midfielders or is Mikel the only one amongst 180 million persons in Nigeria? Yes Rohr is trying no thought but he should use that tactics we know the Germans portray. See how Germany yesterday rotated their first 11 against Brazil and lost because it’s a friendly game. They wanted to test all their players in a proper game and not only during training. A player will only be exposed and improve when he is put on a big stage.
well I don’t think iwobi is a good winger…and kelechi nwakali might have something in stock for us… ighalo is good but he needs competition
Alex Iwobi a 6? Haba
I didn’t see this game but judging from what I saw of the Polish game, the super Eagles was awful.
They won by share grit and luck because Poland scored a genuine goal. The ball went past the line before Balogun cleared it aside that the performance was embarrassing.
I think we may need ball playing midfielders like Azubuike Okechukwu & Efe Ambrose to deputise for leon and Ekong.
Meanwhile our goalkeeper made few blunders and doesn’t seem to me a reliable hands for the world cup we can do better with the likes of Ejide still active.
Frankly after seeing the game against Poland my expectations of the team dropped drastically and was not astonished by the result against Serbia. We weren’t good enough and are reliant on a couple of players and when unavailable the team looks ordinary.
I wouldn’t blame the coach but the lack of good players available. He can only work with what is available to him.
On the other hands, things might change within the next couple of months. At least the friendlies has exposed certain defeciencies in the team and fortunately we have a good coach in Rohr who could put things right with the help of his crew and the football authorities.
Let’s pray for the team as we haven’t another. We wish you well our dear Super Eagles.
Joel Obi has no place in the team
If Joel Obi does not have a place yell me if Onazi was better. Based on the players we Have, regardless of Joel’s average showing I believe Onazi has been worse.
Gbam! Even Ndidi was erratic yesterday. I don’t who’s playing number 10 between him and Joel. Without Onazi against Poland they both were fantastic together. Mind you Mr Anthony it takes intelligence for a player that’d not been in the team for so long to still play the he did. Onazi is a disaster waiting to happen if he starts ahead of Obi or Etebo in the Mundial.
In two games under Rohr (South Africa and Serbia) we had Onazi as captain, Awaziem pairing Ekong in the defence, and Musa starting as the main striker. In those two games we played below par, lost by two goals, and the two goals scored by the same striker…….
It’s too much of a coincidence…..
Please, Rohr, never should we have such combinations again in Super Eagles!
That was my thought as well
We need a dependable striker and i suggest we get Desser Cyril ASAP. Google him and see how he scores with ease. His movement off the ball and his ability to shoot with both feet with accuracy. Since he indicated interest in playing for Eagles we just need to bring him down here.
