Benin Republic Fans Boast: Home Eagles Will Fall In Cotonou!

By James Agberebi in Cotonou:

Football fans here in Benin Republic are sure their team will defeat the home-based Super Eagles in Sunday’s 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier in Cotonou, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Benin Republic will host the home-based Eagles inside Stade de’lamite for the first leg, while the return leg comes up a week later in Kano with the winners over two legs qualifying for the 2018 CHAN in Kenya.

Speaking with Completesportsnigeria.com here in Cotonou, most of the fans said they believe they have a good team that should beat the favourites Nigeria.

Gbemavo Raul stated that he is banking on Benin’s formation which should trouble the Eagles.

“My hope is for Benin Republic to beat Nigeria because they are a very good team. Also, I believe with the kind of formation which the team plays with, they should win,” Raul said.

“For the scoreline, I will predict 2-1 in favour of Benin Republic.”

Jeal Akweyewu played down Nigeria’s status as a big football nation, positing that it is about who wants it the most.

“I think my country Benin will win this game tomorrow (Sunday). For me it is not about how big a country is but it is about who made the effort to win,” Akweyewu said.

“And for the number of goals that would be scored, I am predicting 1-0 for Benin Republic.”

Expressing his views, Borise Danulo says he is banking on home advantage for Benin Republic.

He said: “I see Benin beating Nigeria because from what I have seen of the team, they are a good side. But it doesn’t mean the Nigerian team is bad but playing at home, I want to give it to Benin.

“Both teams will score goals but I will give it to Benin 3-2.”

According to Eviape Dudumevu, Benin’s win against Togo in round one of the qualifiers should give them the edge against a Nigerian.

“Nigeria is a big team in West Africa but also Benin team is becoming big as well in football. Benin defeated Togo in their last game and can also beat Nigeria,” Dudumevu said.

“Football is 11 against 11 and it is played for 90 minutes and also this is not Kano, this is Cotonou and for that reason I think Benin will win 2-1.”

On his part, Konvi Kossi stated: “I am predicting a win for Benin Republic because there are no more big and small teams when it comes to football, you only use your legs and it is who was able to come out tops in terms of tactics.

“I see Benin beating Nigeria 2-1 but it will be difficult.”

Rodrigue Anato added: “Naturally, I expect Benin to win because we have a good team and some good individual players.

“I learnt Nigeria played a friendly match against a small team in Kano which ended 1-1. But for Benin, we played and beat Togo who are not a small team because they have some good players also. So naturally I believe we will win tomorrow.

“I think Benin will beat Nigeria 2-0, and go on to qualify for the CHAN.”

“I have to support my country so I am giving the match to Benin Republic, we will beat Nigeria.”

Another Benin fans, Jeanjurese Metre, said: “We know that Nigeria have big players but since we are playing at home, it will be to our advantage.

“So for my prediction, tomorrow’s game will end 2-1 for Benin and the return leg will be 1-1.”

But Vin Saliu had a different view as he tipped the home-based Eagles to win.

“I wish Benin will win but it will be a very difficult game against Nigeria,” he told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“We may have the fans and all the support but Nigeria is not a small team, Nigeria is a great team. It is impossible to compare Benin to Nigeria.

“I see Nigeria winning maybe 1-0 but if Benin emerge victorious, I will be happy.”
