Benitez Backing Kenedy To Deliver

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has thrown his full support behind Kenedy following a poor start to the season. Former Brazil Under-23 international Kenedy was a revelation at St James’ Park in the second half of last season when joining on loan from Chelsea, with his performances helping the Magpies finish 10th in the Premier League.

Newcastle managed to snap up the 22-year-old on a season-long loan this summer from the Blues and fans of the north-east outfit were expecting the winger to pick up from where he left off.

However, Kenedy has struggled to replicate his performances from the previous campaign, having missed a penalty in the 0-0 draw at Cardiff City whilst also getting away when kicking out at Victor Camarasa earlier in that match.

The Brazilian has come in for some stick but Benitez, who has less than a year left on his contract, says he has had a good chat with the winger and is confident better will come.

“His partner has had another baby and it is a time when he needs to settle down,” he told the Chronicle. “But we had a conversation and we analysed things he did well and did wrong.

“He knows now. He knows he has my support. Now he needs to work hard and deliver because if he works hard he will be OK, he has the talent and he can do well.”
