Rafa Benitez has arrived at Newcastle's St James' Park as he seals a deal to become the club's next manager, mirror.co.uk reports.
Newcastle gave Steve McClaren the boot Friday morning – apologising in the process – and Benitez will take over lfrom the former England manager.
Benitez was sacked by Real Madrid earlier this year after a disappointing season, but has previously admitted to wanting to returning to a Premier League club.
And the Toons have secured their man – hours after sacking Steve McClaren.
The club took the unusual step of apologising to McClaren and the club's players for the way in which his sacking has been handled having left the previous boss in limbo.
It was confirmed on Friday that McClaren had been dismissed from his role at St James' Park, with the Magpies firmly entrenched in the relegation mire.
A statement on the club's website said: "We acknowledge that reaching this decision has taken a number of days and that this has caused uncertainty for everyone involved, in particular for Steve and the players, for which we apologise.
"However, we felt that this time was necessary to ensure the right decisions were reached with the best interests of the club at heart."
Newcastle will face league leaders Leicester City on Monday night.
