Bernard has been tipped by fellow Brazilian Richarlison to thrill the Everton fans and have a “big inluence” on the team this season. Toffees boss Marco Silva pounced to sign the 26-year-old winger on a free transfer after his contract at Shakhtar Donetsk expired at the end of last season and he made his debut in Sunday’s 3-1 home defeat against West Ham.
Despite the disappointing result, Bernard looked impressive on his Goodison Park bow, having been introduced shortly before half-time, as he immediately set up Gylfi Sigurdsson to score the hosts’ goal.
And, fellow summer arrival, Richarlison, has spoken out to back his compatriot to prove to be an astute signing for the Merseysiders this season.
“Bernard is an agile player. He is really fast and scores a lot of goals,” Richarlison told the club’s website.
“With his speed, he gets behind players and is a danger in the box. His ability pushes opponents back and causes them problems.
“He is highly thought of in Brazil. He is known as Joyful Legs, so he is the type of player who will bring joy to the Everton fans.
“He will be popular here and, hopefully, have a great season and be a big influence on Everton.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
