Betis Supremo Hits Back At Ceballos

Real Betis vice-president Jose Miguel Lopez Catalan has hit back at Dani Ceballos following his outburst about his exit from the club. Ceballos, who joined Madrid from Betis in summer 2017, suggested in a recent interview that his departure from the Seville-based outfit was the club’s fault.

However, Lopez Catalan has blasted back and, while he admitted Betis were initially slow at tying the midfielder down to a new, long-term deal, he says Ceballos is being untruthful. “His words annoyed me a lot, because they are not true,” Lopez Catalan was quoted as saying in El Mundo Deportivo. “Dani is telling a story that is far from the reality, and yes Betis may have erred by not signing a deal many months earlier but the player stalled for months. “From my point of view it was clear that he was thinking only of himself and not about Betis, and ultimately it led to an exit that was not pleasant for anyone.”

The 22-year-old has had to bide his time at the Bernabeu and made just four La Liga starts for Los Blancos last season but he’s already made 14 first-team appearances across all competitions this term, scoring once.
