This is the last chance saloon for both Chelsea and Manchester United to salvage their disappointing seasons. Chelsea have had the worst of it, coming into the campaign as Premier League champions but ending the 2017/18 season 5th place in the league and having had their Champions League venture cut short by Barcelona.
It’s undoubtedly been a major drop off in performance from Antonio Conte’s side, and it’s one that could well cost the Italian his job. Even a victory on Saturday could see him sacked, whilst defeat is almost sure to spell the end of his reign at Stamford Bridge.
Jose Mourinho’s situation isn’t quite as bad as his rivals’. They finished well outside the top four last term but were squarely focused on winning the Europa League towards the end. This season they have improved in terms of results, finishing 2nd in the Premier League, but performances have been well below par and have many of the fans frustrated.
Even the final few games of the season didn’t see Mourinho throw caution to the wind. With a top four spot wrapped up well in advance many fans were hoping to see a more attack minded approach with nothing on the line. In true Mourinho fashion though, this wasn’t to be. The final three games of the season saw just two goals, with them losing to Brighton, drawing at West Ham, and beating Watford 1-0.
Chelsea’s end of the season didn’t go any better though. A 1-1 draw at home to the relegation threatened Huddersfield was a very poor showing on the penultimate round of games, but even worse was their dreadful 3-0 loss at Newcastle on the final day of the season. This will have hurt Conte and the Chelsea squad, and is a big blow to their confidence ahead of such a crucial tie at Wembley.
The advantage looks to be in Mourinho’s favour as the two managers look to settle their differences. Manchester United have won their last seven games at Wembley in cup competitions and even managed to beat Spurs there in the semi-final last month. Chelsea have had a rather easy run in the FA Cup too, being drawn against Norwich, Newcastle, Hull, Leicester, and Southampton and still being taken past the 90 minute mark twice.
We think backing a Manchester United 0.0 Asian Handicap Win is the way to go here, and we’re expecting another cagey showing from Mourinho’s men. They have kept a clean sheet in four of their five FA Cup games this season, so we’re going for a Manchester United Win to Nil bet as well, along with a 1-0 correct score predictions.
