Birmingham Hijack Egwuekwe Deal

–Warri Wolves reject West Ham £500,000 bid for Eagles defender

Super Eagles and Warri Wolves center-back, Azubuike Egwuekwe’s reported deal with English Premier League side, West Ham United may have collapsed with Championship side, Birmingham, understood to be his likely destination.

West Ham made an offer to the tune of 500,000 Pound to price the defender away from Warri Wolves with a reported 15,000-a-week offer but officials of the Seasiders are reported to have turned down the offer.

Wolves in rejecting the offer preffered a move to lower league side where the player will enjoy regular playing time to horne his career.

Birmingham, which once had Obafemi Martins on their payroll have made an in-road in the pursuit of the Wolves captain.

“Egwuekwe is not going to West Ham”, informs a Warri Wolves official confidently though asking not to be mentioned in print.

“There are lots of cards on the table for him, and one of such is Birmingham City. We are looking at a situation where he will join a lower league side and enjoy regular playing time. From there he’ll get matured to play in the big teams in bigger leagues.

“That was the case with Kenneth Omeruo who is now a big player with Middlesbroug,” the official added without revealing the other clubs interested in the Nigerian defender.

Egwuekwe was not registered by Warri Wolves in their list for the 2015 CAF Confederation Cup, a clear indication the player currently with Super Eagles in United Arab Emirates, UAE, for a two-game tournament, is on his way out of the club.

“We didn’t register him because we know he’ll not complete the season with us. But make no mistake about it, he still has existing contract with us”, the official explained.
