Bjorn Sweating On Casey Injury

Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn will be anxiously awaiting news on the injury which forced Paul Casey out of the BMW Championship. Bjorn selected the 41-year-old Englishman as one of his four wildcard picks last week but organisers at the BMW Championship in Philadelphia confirmed on Monday that he has withdrawn because of a back problem.

Casey had little chance of winning the event given that he was 13 shots adrift of leader and Ryder Cup team-mate Justin Rose going into the final round at Aronimink Golf Club, so it is hoped the decision was a precautionary measure.

It is not the first time Casey has been hampered by a back problem this year as he had to withdraw from The Players Championship at Sawgrass in May.

However, he was fit within a fortnight on that occasion and Bjorn will be hopeful that a similar scenario plays out ahead of Europe’s bid to win the Ryder Cup back from the United States at Le Golf National near Paris between September 28-30.

Indeed, Casey’s decision to pull out of the BMW Championship will not see him drop out of the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings so he will be able to feature in the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta next week if he is fit enough.
