The Jamaican superstar became the first athlete in history to win the 100m and 200m gold medals at three seperate Olympic Games, having won both sprint titles in Beijing in 2008 and London four years ago.

Running in lane 6, Bolt, the clear favourite going into the final, absolutely obliterated the field, winning in 19.78 seconds.

The closest athlete to him was Canada youngster and 100m bronze medallist Andre De Grasse, who claimed silver in 20.02 seconds, while Frenchman Christophe Lemaitre won bronze in 20.12 seconds after being declared just ahead of Great Britain's Adam Gemili via photo finish. Gemili also clocked 20.12.

After the race, Bolt was heard telling the BBC that he does not plan running 200m at the London World Championships next year.

He also declared that Rio 2016 will be his last Olympics.

Bolt, who will be 30 on 21 August when Rio 2016 will be brought to a close, will be going for his ninth Olympic gold medal when he leads the Jamaican 4×100 team in the relays.
