TFabio Borini thinks AC Milan could have scored more goals against Dudelange in their Europa League win on Thursday night. Milan picked up an unconvincing win in Luxembourg in the Europa League Group F clash after coach Gennaro Gattuso rested most of his first team squad.
Borini himslef played on the left wing and came close to scoring twice, but failed to find the back of the net, with the only goal of the night coming on the hour mark from Gonzalo Higuain, whose shot took a deflection and beat the Dudelange goalkeeper.
“It was fundamental to win this Europa League opener, especially away from home against a team that we didn’t know that well,” Borini told reporters in the mixed-zone after the game. “I think we did well, we take home the three points and didn’t concede any goal.
“We created many chances, both Higuain and I, I hit the post and the margin could have been wider. In modern football, there’s not much difference between the big and small teams. There was everything to lose. We did well in interpreting the game the right way and take home a win. We have a deep squad who can do well in all three competitions.”
