Balogun Returns To Mainz Training, Could Face Bremen

By James Agberebi:

Mainz coach Martin Schmidt has hinted that Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun could make his long-awaited return to his team from injury after impressing in training, reports.

Balogun is yet to play for Mainz this year after sustaining injury.

His last game for Mainz was in December 2016.

Speaking in Thursday’s press conference ahead of Mainz’s Bundesliga home clash against Werder Bremen on Saturday, Schmidt also gave a report on other injured players.

“Leon Balogun has been able to train fully, but the situation hasn’t changed for Niko Bungert,” Schmidt said.

“Robin Quaison trained a little bit on Tuesday, and again fully yesterday. He’s progressing quickly.

“Quaison gives us similar qualities as Jhon Cordoba. We’re looking forward to letting him lose on the Bundesliga.

“But unfortunately this weekend has come too soon for Quaison.”

And commenting on the game against Bremen, Schmidt said: “Werder Brehmen are a fantastic team and we know they have a good squad. But we’re going to be focusing on us.”
