Anichebe posted a man-of the match performance for the Black Cats, scoring a goal and providing an assist for the winner.

The strike was Anichebe’s first goal for the club since joining on a free transfer this season.

Howe who watched his side suffer a fifth English Premier League of the season also praised the heroics of Jordan Pickford in goal for Sunderland

Howe said in his ppst-match reaction to reporters: “We were in total control at 1-0, but we stopped being as progressive as I would have liked and they found a way back into the game.

“We didn’t deal with Victor Anichebe particularly well, especially for the goal, but we created some gilt-edged chances and it is frustrating they didn’t go in. Their keeper played well, so credit to him.

“We believe in what we do. It is a tough league, so we focus on the next match.”

Also, former Manchester United and Everton star Phil Neville says Anichebe is difficult to deal with when in form.

Neville who played with the Nigerian at Everton in 2011 said while analysing the match: “He’s a great player with a massive presence in the box but he needs to do more to regain his old form.

“Anichebe on his day can be unplayable.”

Anichebe has made three EPL appearances (four in all competitions) for Sunderland who are still 20th on the log.

Bournemouth currently 12th on the log will travel to the Britannia stadium to face Stoke City in their next game in a fortnight.
