If there is fighter who shouldn’t have lost his bout at the 15th edition of GOtv Boxing Night, that boxer should be Idowu Okusote.
Okusote, Cabasa for short, faced Michael Godwin in an 8-round cruiserweight national boxing challenge as part of the boxing show on Sunday. The national cruiserweight champion had hoped to cruise to an easy victory but that didn’t happen.
He was actually on course to a routine win when disaster struck in the sixth round when he ran into a suker punch. Cabasa was ahead on all judges cards and was on course for victory before he got careless a and radio into a big punch from Godwin who needed a knock out to win.
Recountingwhat led to his loss after the fight, the boxer who claims to be a Danfo driver when he is not engaged in boxing said he never knew what hit him.
“I can’t really say I know what happened, I just found out that Godwin seized the opportunity of my tiredness and sent
me down with a punch, I thought would adjust but it was over before I knew it, a stunned Okusote told Complete Sports moments later.
On what he plans to do moving forward, the Lagos based boxer said he had to get himself together very soon or he would have to leave the local scene and try his luck abroad.
“I lost my bus recently and things have not been right for me psychologically, I also neither have a personal trainer nor manager, I’ve been working out on my own and we can all see the result.
“No coach accompanied me to Ibadan, because i don’t have the means to pay them. In fact, the trainer that seconded me in the ring just did it as a favour,
right now, I’m seriously thinking about travelling out to resume my career,” a frustrated Cabasa said.
