Brighton are increasingly likely to launch a bid to sign young Chelsea defender Reece James in 2019. Last month The Sun reported that the 18-year-old, who has been impressing during a season-long loan spell at Wigan Athletic, had become a ‘shock target’ for the Seagulls.
The pacy right-back has started all but one of Wigan’s Championship matches this season and scored his first goal in senior football on Sunday in Latics’ 2-1 home defeat to Leeds.

Brighton had a scout at the match and it looks more and more likely that Albion officials hope to secure James as the long-term replacement for popular Spanish defender Bruno, 38.
James is known to Albion’s new director of football and ex-FA chief Dan Ashworth from his time with England’s Under-20s.
He is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2022 but Chelsea are well stocked at right-back, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Davide Zappacosta in Maurizio Sarri’s first-team squad.
