Two Year Old Ready To Win Back On Favoured Course.
A last time out finishing position of 18th in a field of 25 doesn’t look like a starting point to find a winner but when the horse was beaten just half a dozen lengths in one of the top sprints of the season it does, in fact, change the rationale. BUCKINGHAM, trained by Eve Johnson Houghton in Oxfordshire, has won twice over tonight’s course and distance and was a creditable six and a half lengths behind Ginger Nut in the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury last time out.
The winner has come out again since and was just done in a photo finish in a top nursery at Newmarket and the second, Moojim has won at Thirsk. Society Queen, just in front of Buckingham, won a Class 3 at York so the form is, as you might expect, outstanding. Back at Chelmsford, on a track that clearly suits him well, Buckingham looks a worthy favourite.
BTOPlus+ confirms his chances, putting him top on regular and speed ratings and giving him 10 positives, such as his trainer’s 80% better than expected return at the track and a host of ticks for the progeny of his sire, Clodovil. PICTURE POST is next best, according to BTO.
