President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday made good his promise to reward the 1985 and 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning squads as well as other sportsmen and women who excelled for Nigeria in 2015.
The current Golden Eaglets, who won Nigeria's fifth U-17 world title in Chile last year, were given N1.2 million each, while their head coach Emmanuel Amuneke got N900,000 and his assistants N600,000.
Other team officials got N200,000 to N300,000 each.
The 1985 squad, who won the inaugural U-17 World Cup when Buhari was military head of state, got N2m each, while their coaches got N1.5m.
The next of kin of the late Kingsley Akhionbare will get his reward on behalf of the family.
The U-23 Eagles that won the 2015 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations were each rewarded with N500,000 while the coach, Samson Siasia, got the same amount.
World scrabble champion, Wellington Jighere, got N1.5m, while his coach got N1.2m.
D'Tigers, who won Nigeria's first Afrobasket title in Tunisia and qualified for the Olympics men's basketball event, got N600,000 each, with their coach getting N600,000 while other officials got N250,000 each.
