Originally he had hoped to be back for the start of the campaign but a bout of glandular fever put paid to that and he is now looking towards a March return date, meaning he will miss the World Club Challenge match with his former club the Sydney Roosters.
Burgess told Wigan Today: “I started running last week, and it felt better than I expected. I’m aiming to be back for the start of March, maybe the end of February. It’s a shame to miss the World Club but it is what it is.”
