Burnley defender James Tarkowski could have been playing for Poland against the Super Eagles in Wroclaw on Friday.
Instead, he will be hoping for his first England cap as the Three Lions face the Netherlands on the same night.
The 25-year-old Tarkowski, who has Polish heritage but was born in England, has had an impressive season with Burnley in the Premier League, which has earned him his first Three Lions call-up.
England could face his native Poland in the round of 16 at the Russia 2018 World Cup but Tarkowski has no doubts where his loyalties lie.
“I’ve always seen myself as an English person so to play for Poland would be difficult,” he told the Press Association.
“I know that side of the family, it’s not something I’ve never thought of or people I’ve never spoken to, but I’ve always seen myself as English. It’s only really the name that’s followed me around.”
According to PA, Tarkowski, whose grandfather left Poland For England after World War 2 in the 1940s, speaks no Polish and loves English food.Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
